PS3 Blu-Ray Balls Up

Postby (TBM) Love Bullet |UK| » Sat Mar 13, 2010 12:57 am

God Damn PS3 isnt reading any discs cd/dvd/blu-ray-games-films, Ive looked about and it seems to be a bit of a problem, all of the downloaded content works fine as well as the pictures/films stored on the hdd, the browser and Iplayer work as normal Ive had it in bits (out of warranty) to see what is moving, laser motor is moving, the laser is doing the bobbing up & down like its trying to read the disc the actual motor that spins the disc isnt grafting.

But this is whats getting me is the motor not spinning cos the laser isnt picking up the disc or is the laser not picking the disc up cos of the motor not working, various posts online say to perform a system reboot or a rebuild system data, non of that worked Ive had sony on the phone and Mr Sony Support tells me if I send them 131 green queens I'll be sent a refurbished PS3 with a 6 months warranty with no isurance that the same thing will happen again in 8 months, sony have me by the balls, pay up £131 for a refurb or put up the few quid for a new console to go wrong again or buy a new laser and mech to see if that solves the problem failing that get a slim and see if that buggers up in 18 months.

Whats really :censored:ing me off is the fact that this is happening to peeps worldwide and sony are doing naff to put this straight if this was a xbox problem then things would of been resolved, ive suffered the xbox ring of death, with in 3-4 days i had a refurbed xbox (they didnt fix the USB springy flap bit :-x) Bastardo's

Anyway rant over :D

Can you not just replace the blu-ray drive on it's own. That might be loads cheaper £50-£60 range :)

Sorry for off topic but 3-4 days MS sent you your bloody refurb are you serious? ARgh i fecking Hate microsoft one of the reasons i got rid of my Xbox was constant breakages and poor delivery service i was always 3 weeks without my console!!

Anyway hmm thats unlucky, you should get extended warranty with game for like 50quid. Lasts 3 years at a time and if anything happens they fix it for free an unlimited amount of times within that 3 years. Saves ya going the £130 Sony route thats what i do but thankfulyl *touch wood* no probs yet. Got like 2 weeks left of mine then i'll probably extend it, surely this 60gb can't last forever lol.

Uh oh i think Delly spoke too soooooooooon. Turned on PS3 there it wouldn't load up the Hard Drive data and i had this problem before but way i solved it didn't work.

So i tried resetting PS3 by holding power in for 5-6 seconds...now everytime i turn PS3 on i get no picture or sound just a Black Screen...

I can't say i care if it breaks as i have 3 PS3's in the house (my 60gb, my dads 120gb and the living room 250gb which is used as the multimedia thing)

but...3 YEARS OF SAVE FILES SPANNIUNG 26 DISC GAMES AND 30 PSN GAMES nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

It better fix itself!!

Suppose it did better than my 360...PS3 lasted 3 years and 360 the first didn't even last a month lol.

*EDIT* Litlary 10 seconds after turning PC off from typing this i was resetting PS3 again and its back and i'm typing on it again wooo...I seriously need a new Hard Drive to back up my data, if this thing died in the middle of Final Fantasy i'll die lmao.

Ok PS3 is not booting up today at all, typical the day God of War 3 comes through the post! I've nicked the living room PS3 tho i am not gonna have GoW3 on my shelf unplayed!

*EDIT* It's the hard drive lol, took it out and put it in my Slim and came up about out of date firmware, reformatting etc. So i'm just gonna use the 120gb machine the now, then nick my mums laptop hard drive as well as trying to copy saves to laptop hard drive then put in fatty.

Ah well wish me luck lol.

Yer man, just a quick phone call and Mr UPS was knocking on the door with a Xbox in arm,

I was looking through ebay and other online stores for a blu-ray drive to replace the naff 1, sure enough £70+, with the PS3 still in bits I had another look around, KEM-400AAA stuck on the mech the laser runs on so I googled that, new laser and mech for 40 squids just hope it works
