Streaming Divx from your PC through your Xbox

Postby [22g]Bloodangel » Tue Feb 02, 2010 7:53 pm

Can you stream divx from your PC to the XBox? Every time i try I get the 'either file is corrupted or it's not a supported file type'...

I can get the sample videos running, like the bear in the river, the standard ones you get on Vista, XP, etc, but it just won't run any of the other file types.

It's a real pain in teh arse cos I've got loads of vids and TV series to watch, and it means i need to hook up the lappy, the audio cables, the VGA and the portable HDD... just never seems like I can be bothered!

i have no problems with that on my xbox, dont ask how i did coz all it did asked for download an update to the console. What i did on the pc was add me video and music folders to windows media players library and checked that the 360 was allowed to communicate with media player also allowed the console in norton internet security.

There is a short guide, its old but hopefully still works that way:

This one seems more complex but is newer and requires some work... but if the first thing doesnt work... Who knows? ;)

Yeah, done all that.... streams music and pictures or both together just fine, and I can place the sample vids in the same folder as the films and they'll show just fine... ergo I figure that it ain't permissions or network connectivity problems. Thanks for the input though dude, much appreciated! :)

Ahh... sheet... there I once use google and i fail!

Since i dont have a Xbox but thought about watching stuff from the PC on the Telly, i was thinking about getting one of these:
(The link is to the german Amazon store - i know :P - but its only 40€ and you can connect any HD or USB stick to it and it plays your
videos and music on the telly via HDMI!
Since i store the media i have mostly on my external HD this seems like a good idea to me, might be a option for you too!)

Funnily enough I was recommended a similar device in work today (can't remember what make it was though) except it cost twice as much! lol

The guy in work said i could borrow his for a weekend to test it though, so i may well end up taking that route as well mate. Thanks for the input mate, greatly appreciated! :)

Np at all! Welcome!

Funny thing is that you brought my attention to the streaming media from PC to Telly, never really thought about that option...
Strange thing is tho that you already got a piece of Hardware that should be able to do it
and end up thinking about buying a second thing because it doesn't work as intended...
As for the price range i found stuff from 30€ - 300€ that seem to do the same thing... Well anyway - good luck!

I'd tried everything. I'd tried every network configuration I could, both hardware and configuration. I tried to stream from my laptop, my PC and another laptop. I tried HDDs plugged straight in, I'd tried connecting through an USB cable.... nothing. I'd given up... then the missus wanted me to port across some photos onto the 360 hard drive, so stuck them on my USB pen and plugged it in. I noticed I had 'Black Sheep' on there already, and although I knew it wouldn't work i clicked on it.... and it said 'Hey, you need an update to play this film....'

I thought 'Odd not seen that before.... never gonna work though', and clicked update.

Next thing this buggering 5Mb download sorted it all out and i can now stream videos from my PC. What a load of bar stewards... 2 years I've been trying to do that! 2 &*£$% years!!!!
